Texas Cooking School Adds Wine Tasting

San Antonio, Texas…one of the prettiest cities I have ever visited…

River Walk, SAT

I’ve spent hours and hours taking in the beauty of River Walk and then enjoying a leisurely lunch or dinner at one of the many wonderful restaurants along the way. What a way to live!

If you are gathering up a group of friends to visit San Antonio for business or pleasure, you might want to visit Rio Cibolo Ranch, located northeast of San Antonio – about a mile south of Interstate 10 – along the route the Spanish Conquistadors took as they moved westward during the sixteenth century.

Rio Cibolo Ranch Cooking SchoolHere you’ll find “A Little Bit of Cooking School,” the only creekside cooking school in Texas! They have now added wine tasting seminars to their cooking school program.

Marjie Christopher, and her son, Craig Christopher, the ranch’s marketing manager, wanted to enrich their guests’ experiences by introducing a diverse sampling of Texas wines into their programs.

You enjoy a hands-on cooking demonstration, learn of Texas wineries, taste many popular red and white wines, tour the gardens and nature trails in ranch wagons, feed the resident longhorns, llamas, buffalo, and beefalo, and are treated to a Southwestern feast for lunch.

Interested? Make reservations by visiting them online or by calling 1-800-713-9444. You can catch their short video here….

If you would like a bit more information on San Antonio, you can begin by watching their videos here, after which you can stroll through their extensive site. Get ready to spend a good part of your day or evening dreaming of all the beautiful and exciting activities to do in San Antonio as you devour the site. Some of the photos are spectacular!

As a side note: I do not receive compensation from the folks I write about. They are tips I find along the way in my research for my travel business – The Glade Explorers Travel or Culinary Cruises & Tours. Tips I think you might find interesting and useful to make your culinary travel experiences a huge success! But – if you do contact them, please tell them I sent you. I’d appreciate it!

bon appétit!

Tour de Forks

Hopefully, you’ve glanced through our “About” page to get a better idea of what we are all about and what I intend to accomplish with this site.

My main objective is to give you:

  • Vacation recommendations to satisfy your quest for fine foods, wines, luxury and lessons – be it on land or sea…

Fields of Heather in Provence

So far, I’ve given you information on the fantastic offerings by Globus Journeys and the Culinary Arts Center on board Holland America’s ships in addition to a few other posts about using a tour company for your culinary adventures, travel insurance, and the advantage of using me as your “personal travel adviser.”

This is my first of many articles about a culinary tour company that does nothing but culinary tours. They don’t float a boat nor do they offer a million other options for tours other than culinary tours. If you haven’t heard of them before, you’ll know all about them and what they have to offer as you read on….

Tour de Forks

Tour de Forks, located in New York City, presents luxury epicurean adventures to Italy, France, and Australia. Beginning in 2009, they will add tours to South India and Turkey as well as Montreal, Canada and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Now in their fifth year, their tours focus on providing guests with an insider’s experience that captures the essence of the cuisine, the people, and the culture of a destination. Their groups are small, relaxed and fun. They offer superb food, attention to detail, and seamless personalized service. They do this by both partnering with other culinary professionals and designing their own itineraries.

Tour de Forks offer small, escorted tours led by culinary experts. They provide culinary experiences such as cooking classes, tours of markets, demonstrations by local producers, wine tastings, meetings with famous chefs and tasting meals at restaurants. They also include cultural and historical sites, hotels and ground transport. Needless to say, they have many satisfied clients as a result.

What follows is but a sampling of the many choices offered by Tour de Forks:

Now until March 2010 – A Taste of Tasmania

View from Strathlyn restaurant

View from Strathlyn Restaurant

“It is a land of cream and honey – thick King Island dairy cream and honey from the leatherwood trees. The crayfish are as big as cats, the mountain streams so pure that the women come to collect the water like modern-day Rebeccas at the well.” Victoria Mather, Tatler Magazine

The island of Tasmania – is one of Australia’s best kept secrets. This unique region offers dramatic mountain peaks, waterfalls, abundant native wildlife, fields of lavender and is becoming increasingly known for their production of premium wines, cheeses, honey and other culinary specialties.

Begin your tour in Launceston with winemaker, Natalie Fryar for sparkling wine tastings at the Jansz winery in Pipers Brook. Afterwards, Chef Daniel Alps will prepare lunch at his restaurant Strathlynn, overlooking the Tamar River.

Travel east to the award winning Tarraleah Lodge and experience the best trout fishing on the island. Once you have caught one, the chef will show you how to prepare it.

Complete your culinary discovery at the Barilla Bay Oyster Farm and enjoy a tour and tasting of fresh oysters overlooking the spectacular Barilla Bay.

Whether you are a foodie that loves adventure, or an adventurer that loves food – we offer you a vacation of a lifetime.

In case you are of the mind that an epicurean adventure in Australia might be just about “shrimp on the bar-b” – au contrair. Although there is shrimp, the wealth of seafood is amazing; plump oysters, abalone, and as writer Victoria Mather of Tatler Magazine vividly describes, “crayfish as big as cats”.

The U.S. Dollar is strong in Australia, making a vacation there a great value. Air fares have never been lower. Delta debuts a new trans-Pacific flight (linking LA and Sydney) on July 1, 2009.

Here’s what some folks have to say about Tour de Forks

I would love to help you plan a foodie’s vacation to the island of Tasmania with Tour de Forks.

I’m but a phone call away at 931-484-8228. If you prefer Email Me and I’ll get right back to you.

thanks for your time…enjoy your day!

10 Reasons To Buy Travel Insurance

A vacation is an important investment…

bemyguest_spain_heading

It deserves the same careful consideration and research you give to the purchase of a car, entertainment systems, dishwashers, mattresses, computers, shoes and cell phones. Come to think of it – more consideration and thought should be given to choosing a vacation than anything else in life simply because travel experiences last longer and remain a part of us almost forever.

Vacations let us create memories that last a lifetime. But unforeseen travel inconveniences can turn a vacation to remember into one to forget. That’s why we always encourge everyone that uses our services to purchase travel insurance for their trip, not matter what their age. In fact, travel insurance is mandatory in order to travel with us on any of our group departures.

We have learned to depend on Access America as our major source of travel insurance coverage for our traveling friends – that’s what I call folks who travel with us. After one trip, we’re all friends – sometimes forever!

Before listing the Top 10 Reasons To Buy Travel Insurance, I would like to share with you the following true story:

To Whom It May Concern:
I want to thank Access America for helping
me. I was halfway through a two-week
research trip overseas, when my husband
suffered a stroke. Because I had purchased
Access America travel insurance, I knew
that I could afford to get myself back home
right away. Access America made it easy
for me to file my claim, and you reimbursed
me quickly and completely for the airfare
increase I had to pay for my changed ticket.
A year later, my husband has recovered well
from the stroke, and I use Access America
insurance for all my air travel.
With gratitude, Sally S.

Whether you take one vacation a year, or travel internationally on a regular basis for your business, a good travel insurance plan will cover you for virtually every unexpected contingency. From travel delays due to bad weather or a missed connection, a lost piece of luggage, or a medical emergency in a foreign country, help is only a phone call away.

TODAY Travel Editor, Peter Greenberg, recommends purchasing travel insurance to protect your financial investment and your peace of mind. In a recently published article, Greenberg lists nine reasons why he thinks travel insurance is a must-have accessory, and Access America has added a 10th reason of their own:

  • Your flight has been cancelled.*
  • Your bags are lost and your medication is in it. You need to have an emergency prescription filled.*
  • Your passport and wallet are stolen, and you need emergency cash and a replacement passport.*
  • You’re involved in an accident and adequate medical treatment is not available. You need medical evacuation.*
  • You need to cancel your trip due to illness.*
  • Your cruise line, airline or tour operator goes bankrupt. You need your non-refundable expenses covered and to get to your destination.*
  • You have a medical emergency in a foreign country.*
  • A terrorist incident occurs in the city where you’re planning to visit and you want to cancel your trip.*
  • A hurricane forces you to evacuate your resort, hotel or cruise.*
  • In response to our tough economy, they’ve added a 10th reason: you lose your job but you’ve already paid for your trip or cruise and need your cash back.

You can’t beat that with a stick!

Make sure your trip is covered…When traveling, you never know what sort of emergency or unexpected event can occur. Access America has 4 travel insurance plans available plus a few additional optional  plans. Regardless of what comes up, you will be protected before and  during your vacation or trip.

For a worry-free vacation, please call me, Elaine Johnston, at 931-484-8228 or Email Me and I’ll get back to you ASAP!

How about you? Any stories where travel protection came to the rescue? Would love hearing from you…

thanks for your time…have a great day!
